Fixing my acrylic tanks seam!

well i tried to contact the guy i got it from but there was no reply here or by phone so he obviously doesnt back up his work....i bought this tank about 6 months ago and it started to split its seam so talked with jason at CFI and he was awsome and very helpful =P. So i decided to fix it myself took a few pictures of the process.


here is before it was fixed doesnt look too bad but was leaking water...

took a dremel with a 1/8" round carbide bit and dremeled it all out all the way through the panel 1/16" out of each panel.

left side after fixing it its decent but got some bubbles in it....still have to sand it down and polish it doing that tomorrow when lowes is open still need to get the bits for it...

found on the right side it was just barely starting to do the exact same thing so i figured idd catch it now and fix it along with the left...

Doesnt leak water anymore!! =P and all corals and fish looking perfect...no effect at all on them with doing this all i can say was atleast it wasnt down on the bottom...ill be posting the finished product pics tomorrow when i get it done..hopefully itll come out pretty decent..

Ahh thanks, that must be some thick stuff! Did you have to clamp it any or just filled the gap?

What is your procedure in sanding it down & polishing it?
 
just filled it....but for safety decided to clamp it with a decent cloth clamp...but i think it would have been fine without its pretty good stuff...

I built acrylic aquariums for 3 years, if you need any advice on sanding that or anything let me know.

You are correct also, the weld-on 40 does not need to be clamped, just held in place more or less to allow it to cure. The joint that you fixed will actually be stronger then the piece of acrylic itself too.
