i bought a flame angel yesterday and did a 2 hr aclimation then released him. he hid for the rest of the night woke up this morn he was swiming around the tank just fine. then one of my power heads came on by him as they alternate every 10 mins. now hes sitting upsidedown on the bottom of the tank breathing hard. the mandarin and hippo tang i put in the day before are dooing great. what do i do?

tested params sal .026 ph 7.9 no3 10 po4 .25 alk 8 deg cal 360 just started a kalk drip to raise ph and cal.

well he died. sad face. died within 2 hrs. must of had a heart attack when the powerhead came on is all i can figure.

Sad, is your no3 really 10 ppm... that is quite high as far as I know.

If this is in the newly set up 90, angel fish are much too delicate to add to an immature system. Any mandarin is going to starve to death in a young tank with so little rock.

the rock has been in ther for 2 monts and seeded 2 diff types of pod 2 months ago they are everywhere. mandarin is fine. and the flame was in qt not the 90
little rock thers around 160lbs of rock in it

the thread on the 90 is just reaquacapeing and adding more rock. did go thirogh a mini cycle and now just showing nitrates. qt is at 0 no3 0po4 460 cal 8 deg kh getting a mag test today

Any re-aquascaping will start things over. The mini-cycle kills off a lot of the flora and fauna and thus re-sets the timer on how mature the tank is. Avoid adding fish, especialy delicates. The mysis eating mandarins are cool, but most die of starvation anyway in a smaller tank. Good luck pal, we are all rooting for yah!

Could have been acclimation.
Some fish only systems use lower salinity when compared to reef tanks.

No need for powerheads in a QT. Simple sponge filter will work just fine. You want your QT as low stress as possible and maybe a couple pvc fittings large enough to provide hiding places

and some local stores run hyposalinity to keep cost down and diseases like ich in check. I asked at the one in sumner and got different answers from 1.011 to 1.019.
