I dont know if this has been done, or is just plainly a dump idea LOL but I attached my concept to build a 10 G Refugium.
this concept was my theorizing if the directed flow will maximize the surface area of the refugium and add any benefit??maybe?
I welcome critiqueing :) or input

I'm not sure why would need the internal baffles. You need a slow rate of water supply going in and out of the fuge itself. Are you trying to increase flow within the fuge without actually supplying more water to it?

I was just pondering if directional flow will maximize the surface area the water flow will come in contact with the Refugium.
I should have been an engineer, I am always trying to figure out a better way to do something (even if I come up with dumb ideas) LOL

that is why I posted this to get feed back.....if it is a waste of time and offers no benefit. or is this a valid concept??

Looks like a good idea to me. My only question is how does the water get back into the return pump? Looks like the baffle is tank high. I like the idea of the longer dwell time. In a small fuge that just may be the ticket for making a small fuge act bigger then it is.

The return chamber is a standard baffle for overflow......the directional "baffles" partititions will be at tank height to direct water flow.

I tossed that diagram together quickly for illustrative purposes

That was my first thought, as well, until I realized that this was a view from the top.

Looks like it would work, to me, though I don't see anywhere for a skimmer. Reducing fuge area, to allow room for a skimmer, would be more advantageous, IMO.

yeah I tried to work a Skimmer into this. with my space and with this system ( 44 G pentagram corner tank) I am very limited. so I am having to use a HOB skimmer

I wanted to use at least a 20 G and that was not possible.

I wounder if it intake coming in under the live rock is good? may start to trap stuff.

maybe I should have explained better intake will be gravity to water surface, Ill use a larger diameter PVC as a return chamber, set verticle at water lever to Deep sand bed ( saw this on another refugium)

Looks cool but IMO a bit over thought.
I like that you do plan on using a hob skimmer. Buy a good quality one.
I made my refugium area as big as I could and then just used a powerhead in it to make the chaeto roll around. I has been reported in the past it grows better with water movement inside the refugium area.
So the cheato didn't end up in my return pumps, I made a over and under baffle with a small sponge filter blocking the cheato from getting out. It has to be cleaned with routine maintainance, but it works for me.

just keep it simple. Water in-water out. If you want to increase the flow within the fuge while still keeping the turnover rate low, you can put a couple powerheads in there. I did this in my fuge with a couple of K1's to keep good flow going through my cheato and keep detritus in suspension.
