Getting an idea

Ok I figured I'd get a faster response here. So I want to make my very own custom skimmer for my jbj. So because the wife as completely shut down the sump idea and because it would cost to much for a custom sump under my stand unless.....(that's another proposel to the wife). I want to configure a skimmer that fits in the skimmer compartment, but stick the pump in the middle chamber. Not sure if I'm projecting my idea good. So I need to know where I can get acrylic tubing that's about 3.5" in diameter. And some guru's to chim in on the essentials of a needle wheel pump skimmer. In the mean time, I'm going to start drawing it out, and researching A good pump, but not something that's going to over power my tank.

You can get the acrylic tube at Keltech Plastics on Pine St. in Tacoma.
If you post something in the Equipment Forum, and relate it to a "skimmer" Skimmy would probably chime in on a decent pump.

Have you considered using an air stone instead of a pump?

I have a moded air skimmer now. But It's not really good.

Why do you want round acrylic tube? You will get a larger mixing chamber if you build it the shape of the chamber it will sit in.

well, dont completely discount an air driven skimmer yet...
it's all in the right air pump and airstone...

Yeah I've looked at those and checked out that gnome skimmer. But can never get a hold of the guy. And the problem with the luft pumps is that its loud, I tried my buddies coralife pump and that was loud. Even putting it outside. I thought about the whisper 150 or 300. Where would I buy square or how would I make one don't have the tools to.press together the acrylic if I diy one

I am pretty sure you can buy rectangular acrylic tubing on line. If you were closer I would be willing to help you out putting together your design.

luft pumps are not that loud... your friends was prolly in need of repair.
really all other air pumps in that class are utter shyte.
and if you cant get those airstones, then get the german sander brand air stones,
should be able to find at like marine depot or premium aquatics

or consider just getting a decent hob skimmer to put on the back,
and be done with the idea of a less powerful internal.
