glass eye squirlfish

a friend has to get rid of his fish and i know that a squirl should be kept in a larger tank. are they reef and invertabrae safe and are they ok with other fish?

They are coral safe but not mobile invert safe. They will eat most types of crustacean, worms and smaller fish. They are pretty peaceful otherwise, nocturnal for the most part and will hide a mojority of the daylight hours.

should I start him with yours.....lol... whats up krish. I was told this fish was a glass eye but i believe he is a big eye. He is realy fat and healthy but i have small shrimp in my reef. I also got a fat yellow tang also put in the fuge , a fat flame angel put in janes tank, a long tentacle anemone, 2 large blue damsels in my reef and around 50 or so pounds of live rock moostly to the 40. I need homes for the squirrel and the yellow. The yellow is realy nice but im afraid to put it in with my sailfin.

Hmm...Any photos of your squirrel fish? The Squirrel fish I know of from around here are redish/pink in color, have big red eyes (thus the reason Bahamians call them Big Eye Johns) and if you put your fingers by their gills, you will get a nasty cut from a sharp thingy sticking off...Is that the fish you are talking about???

do you mean this one. the one i have looks like the other one big black eye. i think he is called a big eye black bar soldierfish.

Yeah...The one on the right is basically what I was referring to. The other one I belive people here call goggle eye(LOL) They love to hide in rocks!

I have seen squirrel fish terrorize new tank mates (maybe an exception), this fish raised it's dorsal spines and just attacked new additions like a tang would with their spines. Other than that no problem as far as feeding was concerned.
