Well My best friend Johnny is in town (middle) and we went fishing @ Westport the other day and were quite successful. We netted the biggest fish ever in my boat so far (27lb). We cought a total of over 20 salmon, cought and released most keeping our limit of 6, 4 kings and 2 hatchery silvers. Here is a pic, me on the right, Johnny in the middle and Tracy on the left. We are old friends from my last station in England.

Here are some more pix of the 2 biggest fish, 27lb and 18lb. We also had a very close encounter with a LARGE whale. Anyone know what type it is? We saw it off the bow about 1000yds off. We slowed down to watch it and next thing we knew it was about 25yds off the starboard side and I think that we scared the crap out of eachother because it went deep after that and we didn't see it again.

Hey Big Tom anyone ever tell you: You look like a young John Madden? RoFlMao....sorry. Anyways, i was curious, im assumin you dont have to use down riggers to catch your salmon then huh? Thats what is used here in S.Dakota, i cant afford to get that type of setup, but those are some sweet fish. Ill trade you for some buffalo meat okay! -JK- and Keep up the good fishin bro!

I am just not sure why I wasn't invited...I mean I got all my own gear, I'm pretty low maintenace, I would even buy lunch.......

Mahi Mahi Steaks

That's Okay Ken,

While I totally understand the thrill of the catchin' ....sigh, If it is fish ya want, Have I got a deal for you....smile. I have 10lb boxes of Mahi Mahi small fillet sections available for only $20 to any Reef Frontier person. I realize you won't get the thrill of an encounter with a Humpback Whale...the pictures were awesome, by the way, but at the very least you don't have to clean nothing either...smile.

Jiddy, I have a feeling even a downrigger wouldn't help catch a salmon in S.D. Unless you guys suddenly sprouted an ocean over there somewhere.....oh wait you must mean in you 220 G ;)

Yeah, thanks Tom for depressing me out here in the midwest ;). Awesome fish, and the whale sighting just isn't fair!

Yes Jidz I use a downrigger, but the hottest pole in the water that day was one w/ a $6 diver board on it w/ a green hotspot flasher and a cutplug herring, infact it outdid my $400 downrigger 3 to 1 at least. (that is what hooked up w/ the 27 pounder) We went out again today and again encountered a large whale but gave it a lot more space. We watched it feed for about 30 mins, it was jumping almost fully out of the water... amazing. We cought so many fish today it was ridiculous, the largest being about a 25lb king :D

I hope you dont make life decisions on that "feeling" a downrigger is about the only way you can catch a salmon in S.Dakota. Im not sure why, i think its for the cold waters, right Tom? And no SD didnt suddenly sprout a ocean, i think it would be on the news. Not only does SD have salmon but they have paddlefish. Did you know the limit for paddlefish is one a year

Anyways, Tom... Did you take pics of the second day? How far is McChord from the ocean and Seattle? My base's brac results come out at 6am tomorrow! So........

McChord is pretty close to the Ocean, about 85miles as a bird flies. It takes us about 2 hours to drive there. The Sound however is about 10mins away and there is a lot of fishing out there too.

We did take some pix but I don't have them yet. No whale pix sorry. I do have some pix from 2 times ago whe we had a pod of orca's swim under my boat. That was freaky. We were just floating around minding our business and next thing we know there is about 10 or more orca's headed right for us off the port side. 3 of them went directly under the boat!

Orcas are pretty cool to see like that. I see that you are a salmon catcher...just had to put in my story.
Just got back from a "business trip" to Alaska and did a run down to fish the Kenai Fri/Sat. Had a great trip...10 sockeye and a 45 lb king! It was the biggest king I have ever brought in and was so cool. People in other boats were taking my picture and I was just praying I didn't lose it. I don't know how to post a picture, but I will try.
