I'm looking to get uncured live rock. Preferably in the $3-$4 range. I was thinking of going with drs. foster and smith or pet solutions because the shipping is pretty good for overnight. I don't want to pay the same price for shipping as I am for the rock. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

why uncured? when u can get cured for about the same price?

I can get fiji for 2 bucks a pound uncured and a nicer "premium" for 3-5. Cured for the fiji is 4 and the nicer stuff is like 5-7 or more. I've got the time for it to sit a month and even if I get cured rock, I still have to cycle it so I figure why not.

If you were referring to getting it from someone on here for 3-4/lb, I'd prefer to get fresh stuff. The diversity of life that comes from new live rock compared to something that has been sitting in someones tank for a year isn't even comparable in my eyes.

That goes the other way too. The bad comes with the good.

I was extremely happy with the cured rock from liveaquaria.com

I got the live rock from drs foster & smith. It was pretty good, i think we did the 22lb box at that time. It was NASTY when it showed up, dead worms & junk hanging off... It definetly cycled the tank though!! But we've added around another 40lbs since then of truly cured live rock, from stores & other people, & we've actually had more stuff come out of those than that dead stuff we bought online. It's a good price but, the clean up is horrible.

I don't even remember now which i chose, but i doubt it! I think that stuff starts out pretty gross, before it is even shipped. And they cover it in newspaper, then put it a styrofoam box, in a plastic bag. The newspaper was all soggy and ripping apart on the rock, its quite a job to get the rock into shape thats ok to put in a tank. and I hear what you're saying about wanting to have the freshly oceanized rock to get all the goodies, but it seems to have MOST everything killed off. We didn't really have any of the "cool little goodies" that people see coming off their live rock. If you get it let us know how it comes!
