I have a month old 45 gallong tank. The tank seems to be doing very well. I am already growing a lot of purple Coralline algae and the tank is starting to look great. Yesterday I noticed a few areas where it appears like green corraline algae is growing. It is light green in color (almost lime, or florecent). It looks just like the purple coraline. Is there such thing as green coraline? Is it desirable or a pest? Please let me know. All my readings are perfect. I event have Phosban in my filter as a precausion. PS I am really excited about my new hobbie. My wife says I am obsessed. Do you guys get the same comments? Just curious.

Yes...there is green coralline algae. If it is truly coralline algae it will be hard to scrape off with anything other than something sharp. Whether it is desirable or a pest depends on your artistic preference.

It is a good thing if one's spouse looks at this hobby as a waste of money. It keeps families out of bankruptcy. :)

not obsessed-addicted! yes, green coraline is cool but seems to either change to purple over time or the purple overgrows it.
