I have a 220 gal tank and love angels, i currently have a 4" juvinile emporator angel that eats out of my hand. I know you are not suppose to mix large angels, but has anyone seen that all angel fish tank in the Ultimate Marine Aquariums book, page 84. How does this guy get away with it. I also have a hippo tang, kole tang, purple tang. Any help would be appreciated. Ryan

I don't recommend it but it you are going to try and mix angels then pick species that are not closely related such as the Imperator, Blue Face and Majestc angels. You want to try to avoid mixing angels with similar colors, body shape and size. Just because two fish will coexist in the same aquarium does not mean they are healthy or happy. A constant source of stress is a threat the the health of every fish in that aquarium and will most likely shorten their lives. The key is to only mix fish that "peacefully" coexist not fish that tolerate each other. If they are squabbling or chasing each other then they are not getting along well enough IMO. It does not have to be all out war for the fish to suffer from stress.

Terry,
Thanks for the reply, I like the blue-face angel as well, the majestic is not bad either. Maybe I will try one of these two. I am assuming that if the grey angel is too closely related to the emperator, then the french angel would be too. Is it common for angels to eat out of your hand. My emperator is not shy by no means, it is the first fish up to the top to eat all the time, and will take food right out from my hand. Even when I am in the tank moving rock or coral, it will follow my hand around and take a nip at me every once and a while. What a character it is! Thanks for the advice..Ryan
