I know different forums have different rules and I cannot find this issue in your rules so please excuse me if I ask what is already posted.

1. Are group buys allowed from non-sponsors if their is no sponsor for what we would like to do?

2. If allowed where do we post group buys?

My friend found a whole sale supplier for LED's he built a 440 bulb LED system for his 96 x 48 tank for about $650.00. He used non-dimmable power supplies and the bulbs were 18 to 20K. He has used for three months and he likes it a lot, so far no downside to his build.

The down side to get started was he had to buy 1000 LED's, now he is building and selling them to other people for twice the cost. I was thinking of doing a group buy of LED's and power supplies because I only need about 200 leds. If this allowed here?

If this is allowed here I will post times, prices and set up a group buy tomorrow once I lock the prices in with the supplier.

So if none of the sponsors even offer the product(s) we are not allowed to do a group buy at all?

We have enough sponsors, selling a wide range of items, that I'd be willing to bet, if you contacted some of them, with the information, they'd be willing to "host" a group buy, for the items. Keep in mind, if you can order it, so can our Sponsors. Contact a few of them, with the relevant information, and see what kind of feedback you get.

If, after contacting sponsors, and you still don't have any luck, PM one of us moderators, with the specifics and we'll discuss it.

Yes the rule sucks. even when trying to save others money... But its the rule.

so as you can see your group buy would not allow any one to save any money if you had to go through one of the Sponsors.

So how many sponsors have you approached, with the idea of hosting a group buy? I'm gonna assume none, based on your previous post.
Many of our sponsors are more than happy to host a group buy, ordering in bulk, with very little profit to be made, if any, saving us members quite a bit. Yes I know this from more than a few experiences.

Keep assuming... and well you just made one of yourself

That’s right I forgot that you were the expert on everything and know everything. Yes I have run group buys and am still setting up some on the side.. The first thing I hear from most of your sponsors is. “Whats in it for me.”

And any money ran through them will have to cover State tax and B&O for them.. In another word add another 20% min on for them..Thats with out anything in it for them.

At that rate its cheaper to buy online then from a local store

My assumption was made, on the evidence you provided, which is in error.

You'll find that most forums have very similar rules.

Since the OP and I have been in contact, and the OP actually has plans to approach a few Sponsors, with the needed information, and see if any are willing to host a group buy, I'll close this thread.

If an instance came up, where a sponsor was unable to provide a specific item, I'd imagine that the Group Buy rule could be discussed, by the staff, to see if an exception could be made. The OP is aware of this and will contact a staff member, if that becomes the case.
