Fritz Super Salt Concentrate
Same product sold through Aquacenter commercial supply
Aquatic Eco System sells the same stuff, repackaged, as Proline Salt Concentrate.

I'm trying to gage if there is enough interest in using Fritz salt concentrate to justify going through the effort to organize a group order. Those of you who read the boards know what it is. We don't see it much in the hobby as it is mainly targeted at the aquaculture industry and hobby distribution sucks.

Aquacenter has the best price I've found at $37 a bucket, but they ship from Mississippi and the added shipping is ~$42 a bucket (UPS ground).

If a group of people is interested we could see how much we could get the cost down by getting multiple buckets shipped motor freight. A full pallet is 36 buckets, so that would be the number of orders that would be ideal.

A user of salt concentrate also needs 80 lbs of Morton Purex NaCl for each bucket of salt, which should run $15 or so if we can locate it. Help to locate Purex, transport Purex, and transport the salt concentrate to a PSAS meeting or some other common meeting point would be needed.

I've never used Fritz salt. I don't know any reef hobbyist using Fritz salt. I'm not endorsing this product over IO, or any other salt. Personally, I'd like to try a different product than IO and believe Fritz may at least mix better than IO and produce a consistent solution with less "aging" needed.

Piercho,
Have you checked on line for specials from Petsmart. You can sometimes buy Instant Ocean salt at Petsmarts for same price as Online. I just print a copy of online price take it to the store. I can get IO salt for 38 bucks a bucket (200 gallon mix).

piercho,

i've recently switched Oceanic salt mix and I like it alot better than IO. mixes better, has higher mag, alk and calcium than IO. Fish Gallery had it on sale for 39.99 for a 200 gallon bucket. I just bought a 200 gallon size so I'm not looking to change salt again but thought I'd pass on this info.

Thanks for the inputs, really. But I'm not currently interested in where to get inexpensive IO or the merits different of salts, in general. There are plenty of threads over the last year on RC for those people who want to discuss or read about the merits of salt mixes. I'm looking for people who want to use Fritz salt, but are inhibited by the high shipping costs. The super salt concentrate would mostly be of interest for people who make up a lot of SW. Fritz MIGHT be a better or at least a more consistent product than IO, but I have no data on that. My understanding is that it is in fairly wide use for commercial purposes, which gives me a enough confidence in its quality to try it. You purchase locally the NaCl product that you want to use with it, which saves you shipping on the weight of the NaCl and gives you control over the purity of the most abundant salt in the SW mixture. I'm suggesting to use Purex because that's what Fritz recommends.

I like to buy consumables like salt and GAC in bulk so that I can use as much as I want without fretting about cost. Two buckets of salt concentrate and 160 lbs of Purex would let me make 800G of SW for ~$100, plus shipping costs. The cost per gallon goes way up with the added shipping costs unless you get a lot of buckets shipped motor frieght.

So, is there anybody else out there interested in using Fritz? Post or PM and once we get an idea of the quantity of the order we can get a quote and go from there. Thanks.
