Growing Macro Algae in the Display Tank

I do not have a sump or refugium. I have a HOB, Cannister and a HOB Protein Skimmer. I hear alot about having macro algae to keep nitrates down. What type of macro algae would be good in the display tank? I also have a Sail Fin Tang so he would probably graze on what ever is in there.

grape caulpera is a nice treat for the tangs to snack on..but have to have light on it 24x7.
chaeto is good

There are a few species of Halimeda that look good, do well (in std lighting schedule), don't get eaten and utilize nitrates & phosphates from water column. If you get to the northend I'd be happy to give you some but someone in your area is surely to have some to spare as well. When/if you got to a sump/fuge then Chaeto & Caulerpa species under 24/7 lighting will be what you want for added nutrient removal plus a source for Pods to grow and multiply (neccessary if you want to have a healthy Mandarin Goby and a big plus for many of the Wrasses and Anthias)

Caulerpa will take over your display if your fish dont keep it under control, be careful.
Halimeda is a CA consumer and not very well liked by fish. Anything green has a good chance of becoming a pest. So again be careful.

Sounds like I really should take the next step and put a sump and refugium toghether.
Thanks for the feedback.. I saw a HOB refugium on CL yeterday for $90. Do these work ok?

I have sea lettuce growing in a clear plastic cup. Drilled some holes and hook it to a suction cup on side of the tank. May look ugly though.

I actually have one of those clear plastic breeder containers that float. I was thinking of putting some chaeto in there. Does the LFS carry chaeto?
