hey all

After looking around all over the place I can't find anything that will work for a sump so I am for a different option for a filter. I have looked all over the place and I like the idea of an intank filter and with only a 55 gal tank I might be able to pull it off but I would like ideas on other things as well.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I had a look at them and they are nice but if I spend that right now I will be beaten with them lol. I was just trying to find something that would help for the time being. I found an intank filter that is around the $50 mark that i was hoping might work

Seriously? you can't find anything for a sump? Make one. I made mine for less than $50 and that was using a brand new 29 gallon glass tank and had custom glass baffles cut to fit. I think you might want to spend some more time in the DIY threads
Not bashin ya dude, just trying to encourage some creativity. :)

the inside of my stand is under 11" and thats making things hard to find lol if I could find something I would trust me

I would have to order on line as no one here carries them and after shipping its going to cost too much.

I live in an area that has a problem with getting supplies thats why I am looking at a plain hang on filter till the summer when i can build something outside

I haven't ever had a problem running a tank with out a sump. A good amount of cured rock, flow and a good skimmer will be fine I use a little rubble for pods. The key is to keep the filters clean and monitor water quality. I have kept a few tanks this way ,with just good live rock and k4's just add things slowly take your time and don't overstock the tank.

I managed to come across an aquaclear yesterday for $20.00 so I picked that up and its running right now. If it actually works for tanks up to 100 gal I should be doing a lot better but I am thinking about doign the diy project on it to make it into a sump/fuge.

Any thoughts

what, do you live someplace that you cant receive mail/packages at??

get a used/cheap hob skimmer, a lb per pound of live rock, and at least 30x for flow from some koralia/tunze powerheads....bam, filtration done.

then run only bags of GAC/GFO in the aqua clear 20, which WILL NOT filter a 100g tank. :)

the annoying part is that I have 60 lbs of rock, 2800 gph of flow and my sea clone skimmer its not the best out there but its better then nothing

its the aquaclear 110 it should work for my tank if nothing else

What’s the problem that your having if any? Just looking for a change? It sounds like what you already have should be working fine unless you are way over feeding or have way to many tank friends for the size of tank. If you use a surface skimmer with your protein skimmer it will be more efficient.

On the other hand I cant believe you cant find a container to fit under that stand locally. Rubbermaid, Tupperware, or some brand. Heck make one out of a wood frame and a pond liner, also10 gallon fish tanks are cheep and should fit.

I don't have any problems finding, making, or using sumps. it is my 2 year old autistic son that forced the no sump, he even learned to take the locking lids i made off, locks had to be installed on the doors or he would have a day at the beach. Sumps are great especially if you are like me and hate looking at pumps and wires, but not a necessity. Water will still Cycle without a sump.
