I don't know if any of you GIs are on here, and Being in that situation in the past I know it's very hard, but I really hope you are all home with your families for next Thanksgiving. Hopefully, a lot sooner.
That is the most important thing.
Take care and be safe. ;)

Yep I'm a few days out from Afghanistan right now. Gonna miss X-mas. Oh well at least I'm home today and surrounded by my fiancee and friends. That's all you can really ask for.

(Withholds that old 1st Cav joke) ;) J/K man. So Vietnam era I am guessing for you then?

Yes thanks indeed.
I've often seen things about people and organizations that send things to
our troops, like mail, or food ect and have wanted to but its hard to tell what and where and if the organization is legit..

My fiancee has a lot of info on that from here Military Wives forum. I'll see if she will ring in.

FID. Green Berets do a lot more than kick doors. I was actually training their National Anti-Terrorism task force. I actually posted a bunch of pics awhile back in this forum. You should check them out.

In the time I spent in Nam and Cambodia, I never saw a door or a building, just jungle.
I guess they kept the good parts for the guys with better looking aquariums

No someone at the pentagon was having a good idea when you were around.....and by good idea I mean throwing darts at a map. Similar to what is happening now in a select few countries I could name off.

A couple of my instructors were all old Mac-V SOG guys. One was cool. The other had waaaaaayyyyyy too many flash back when working with heavy tools and explosives. I barely survived a 4 lbs flying sledge attack one day. LOL

I had a friend like that in Nam, he was my helocopter pilot.
We used to fly a LOH almost every few days (which is a small 4 seater)
He would fly a few feet over a dirt road when he saw a logging truck and watch all of the Native people jump off as we flew almost into the cab of the thing. If he found a bridge, we had to fly under it no matter how small it was.
A few times he tried to kick prople riding on those Vespa's (motor scooters) while he was drinking Wild Turkey.
That was in a country full of VC. Not real friendly to Americans at that time.
We did get shot down once and I was amazed that he was surprised. (we did not crash, only had a real hard landing)
I don't know how a war is fought now but we could go almost anywhere to do almost anything. That is of course if you had access to a helocopter.
There were no safe places, only jungle, but at that time some of it was fun.
And No, I do not want to do it again. At 19 nothing can hurt you.
Sitting on those skids of a Huey was also probably not the smartest thing to do there. :D
