How high do you keep your lights off the water surface, please give some details as type of lighting & hood height etc...

3-400W 20K DE PFO pendants, 8 inches from the water to the bulb (vs the glass shield). Run by 400W PFO HQI ballasts

1-250W 10K SE XM 6 inches from the water to the bulb in a spider-type reflector

Lights spaced evenly over 72" wide tank

No longer using Actinic T-5's but to 5ft T-5 actinics used to be mounted 4" off the water.

The MH's are 6", PC's are 9". Plug-n-play Hamilton fixture with 2 x 250 watt 10k xm's and 2 x 96 watt PC actinics.

mh's 8 inches over the water. high enough to work and cover the tank spread but low enough to give ok intensity.

Mine are really 9" from the surface. I voted 8". I have 2x 250 watt hamilton 14000k with parabolic reef flectors. DIY canopy. Steve

I run 3x400w XM 10k bulbs on standard ballasts approx 8" off the water surface... Works nicely..
