Help...tank green and cloudy instantly

just checking to see if anyone has a clue of what it might be i had been working on my new tank plumbing it and walked past my current reef setup and it was crystal clear and about 3 mins later i walked past it again to go outside and it was cloudy and green to the point of not being able to see through at all i panic'd and did a 5 gal water change real fast and let it be untill now its starting to clear up a bit but what im wondering is what could that have been...i emptied the skimmer cup right after that it didnt seem like it had overflown but if it did could that be what it is? any input and propper action is apriciated

there is a very good chance your calerpa went sexual. Basically it expelled its internal algae into the water. If this is to be true you might notice your calerpa to be more clearish see-through and less green. If so, remove the calerpa, the chateo can stay it will be fine. Run your skimmer extremely wet and keep an eye on things.
 
yea you can check the calurpa, if it went sexual it would now be almost dead so yellow or whitish in color, but I dont so. Sound more like a phyto bloom.

yeah it was the calurpa im guessing i checked it last night and it was clearish and looked dead so i took that out and now the tank is cleared up and everything looks good aside from my yellow polyps....ill have to keep a good eye on them thanks for the help =)
