Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

It looks to me like the fish has two problems (at least). One is Marine Ich, the other is Brooklynellosis.

Unless the fish was well nourished and still eating, it might not be able to handle the double assault and the double treatment. Without a better photo, that is about all I can offer.

If Airphotog searches the Internet and decides this is the case, then these posts will help:

and for curing Brook:

The post on curing MI will also help you with the diagnosis.

I have a bottle if you can't find it locally Bryan. I'm heading out of town but can leave it on my door step. My house sitter might be there but if not you can still grag it off my porch. PM if you want to do that.

Oh be careful and let Returnofsid help on the amount to use, it's pretty strong stuff.

if it was that quick, then IMO I suspect Marine Velvet..any other fish in the tank would need to be treated quickly..MV can spread that quickly...read Lee's sticky on MV.

Can the reef be treated

Short answer no..

This is where identification is crucial in determing the treatment to use.

IF, and that is a big question which I am not too sure in your case, IF the parasite in question is Marine Velvet then the only way to rid it is to use Copper (hyposalinity will NOT kill MV). But this is only to be used in a QT, not in the main display. If Ich, most people use hyposalinity as a treatment, but again only to be used in a QT, not main display tank, as hyposalinity will kill everything..live rock, inverts, corals, etc..

So, the only way to completely remove MV, and for that matter Ich, is to remove the host. A host (that is, fish) is needed for MV or Ich to survive...which is why I asked if you had any more fish...cuz if you do, MV or Ich will not be eradicated from the system until you go fishless for 8 wks..

Corals and inverts are not affected by MV or Ich..

If not read already, suggest you read the following sticky from start to finish:

If you plan on using Copper at any time, read this:
