Hello, New to RF. Just browsing around for ideas and researching for a future reef tank. (maybe 2 years away).

Welcome to Reef Frontiers.
We would love to see a new tank build.
So what kind of space are you working with? Any room for a seperate fish room?
After looking around here a while, what are your thoughts as to what you WANT to do?

Thanks! Space is undetermined at this point. I would like to have a fish room, but that might have to wait for a future build. I am just starting to plan and get ideas, so I would say I am still a year or two away. So far, after seeing the builds on this forum, I am very impressed and intimidated! Hopefully I can get some good ideas and learn how to do things properly before I take the big step.

Oh wow...dont be intimidated. You can do it. There are a lot of people here willing to help you figure out what to do first.

Which would be to answer some hard questions
Do you want to keep coral and what kinds, soft, lps(large polyp stony) or sps (small polyp stony).
They all require different lighting.
What do you want to keep for fish? Smaller ones that you could keep in a nano tank, tangs that require much larger tank. There are fish that do great in a 75-100 gal tanks. Then some require much larger tanks and dont do well with some or most coral. Trigger fish for example need a 180+ tank and most will nip at or eat/kill lps coral and clams. I have been lucky with the one I have as far as coral, but he will eat clams.

Just some things to think about.
But really, dont be intimidated by the whole thing. I have learned over the last few years, its not really as hard as it looks or sounds.

haha. I will have to give then a call the. What are some other good LFS that you recommend? I live Kirkland area, but I certainly don't mind driving to Renton for quality products and good advice.

One of the sponsors here is in Shoreline. A little closer.
Red C Aquarium. Hes very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Hey there I work in Kirkland and saltwater city isn't far since it's right in bellevue. And I like going into Denny's pet world. Jesse is who encouraged me to take the plunge and demystified the basics for me. But my fav has to be barrier reef. Although I will be going to oceans by design this weekend for the first time:) The eastside is lucky to have so many reef stores that close. And don't be intimidated by it. It's actually pretty easy it's just some of us like to make harder than it needs to be:) I guess we like it that way. All my systems are based on easy of maintenance. Others are based o
having perfect water parameters and others are based on building intricate systems that one day may hold fish and
coral long enough to start the new project lol. I'm not calling anyone out haha. Welcome to reef frontiers ijoining here was the best thing I could have done to Improve my reefing experience. If you need help let me know:)
Paul

Thanks! Denny's is the place I usually go to, but I think I bug Jesse way too much haha. I look forward to keeping in touch with the members here. I really like that there are so many locals. I have had fish only tanks for a couple of years and have been trying to convince my friends to get into the hobby too. no takers.
