This popped up on a piece of rock that a ric is growing on. Anyone have and idea what it is and should I leave it be.

Ahhhh heck, why can't I ever remember the name of that algae?! By the way, it is a Macro Algae. Completely harmless. Someone else will come up with the name, soon, since my memory is fading so quickly!!

Neomeris species, probably Neomeris dumetosa

I had them before and they started getting out of hand, they aren't that bad to get rid of though.

They look nice. I've seen some pics where they have grown out of control though. I have a few in my tank, and they don't seem to be spreading too fast, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the Id. I'll see if I can prune them to keep them under control. It's on a small, portable, rock so I might see if I can break the ric off and toss the rock in the sump.

Neomeris used to be confused with Codium which branches, whereas Neomeris doesn't.
If nutients are high, it can take off as with any macro. Should be fine as long as you keep an eye on it (duh)

Ahhh how I miss Codium! I had it, a long time ago, in our 46, and actually really liked it!

they can get out of control if you let it. I had some on my rock, and it attached to snails so they spread it around.

You may be thinking of Halimeda algae. Halimeda is a calcerous algae that's very cool! It's easy to trim back, so keeping it under control, as long as you can reach it, is fairly easy.

Possibly...Only algae I mess with is coraline algae!
