Thanks! Will work those links into my pages as you suggested, its nice to be able to direct elsewhere if I dont have what they are looking for. Have to say also that Leslie and Susan are a HUGE help and do so gladly. Without them, my pages would be nothing more than "this is a worm"...lol

Going to move this to new to reefkeeping and sticky it. It does seem to be a rather well worn topic. I'm sure many will have something to add.

Cheers

Here is a pic of a hitchhicker I have had in my tank for 10 months now, it arrived on a piece of live rock. I have had no problems so far, it looks like he has salad tongs not a steak knife, seems to eat coraline algae.View attachment 18406

I have a crab that looks exactly like that. The one that came on my rock will come out and accept pieces of silversides and shrimp when I do my bi-weekly feedings. He's a funny looking little guy for sure.

Hitch Hiker nudi?>?

I have a question re: hitch hikers, found a little something (thought it was an anenome)hiding in my pipe organ coral. got it home, now a week later, the coral isnt doing as well , and this little "anenome thing" we thought was one is now looking like a worm or nudi, with tenticle thingys. Ive attached a pic, any help to ID this little fella would help. hes Pink, and moves like a sea slug, but is VERY narrow, like a piece of speghetti, with long tenticle looking things comming off of him, just need to know if i need to yank him out, and he might be the reason as to my pipe organ not doing so hot? Help please, ive looked everywhere and cant find anything that looks or kinda looks like him.

Thanks in advance!

Oh and we also have one of those crabs...auqua man. Its related i think to the emerald crab family, but is brown. Ours doesnt bother any of our piece of the sea. but comes out at times and cleans up alot. hes awsome and about 2inches across now.

Thanks all!!! I have removed it, and so far no sign of any eggs or little critters (babies). Weird that you say its a bad one, cause it was hiding in my Pipe Organ Coral for over a week, and now, it looks like its DEAD!!! Any ideas as to how to tell? Or what to do to revive my Pipe?? :(

Yeah, it was most likely eating your pipe organ. Check the pipe organ over very closely, looking for egg strands. Pay close attention to the base of the coral. As for "reviving" it...once all predators are removed, and any potential predators, in the form of eggs...it'll just be a matter of giving it time to heal, if it's not totally dead.

Tagging along.

I'm in the same boat as you. I suffer from the same affliction. I've been reefkeeping for 5 years now, but its just now started to take a life of its own. I went to having a 40 gallon in February of this year, to a 75 gallon in April, to a 150 gallon full of fish, hard and soft coral... This truly is a interesting and fun hobby.
