I imagine that if it's in a corner it woud be good. Peppie would be a good one to ask

Ok so let's get talking about alternatives. Icthyis is selling that jbj in the classifieds section. And Kevin is selling a pretty "cold" acrylic lookdown tank. 1/2+"acrylic looks to be about 60 gallons or so. With a bigger tank comes bigger chiller need. I still think for the price the lobster tank is your best bet. But that jbj would be great if you found a chiller.

K nemCrazy. I do think the lobester tanks r my best bet still.
How does the.double pain glass.work? Is it.close.and no.air inbetween?

I have a 55-60g acrylic.dude in the garage and I was thinking I could drill a 1 1/4" hole for the ice probe thing of needed. Also I wanna spray black pond foam and make a.sloap. or some.wall pieces with shelves.

My only prob with this set up will b I need some way to control the on and off of the probe. Its rated 55g and it will b less with the pond foam and watever else.

I just picked up a 60 gallon acrylic for $20 and am about to get my 1/4hp chiller working again. Just needs a fuse, and I already have a ronco temp controller to keep temps down where I need em, 55-60. An ice probe won't keep that big of a tank cold enough. Dropping a reef tank 3 degrees to avoid over heating is one thing but dropping it 20 degrees takes more hp. funny enough most chillers are not made to drop temps to Coldwater levels and will require a temp controller unless you get into the 1/2 hp or higher category. I glad to hear your getting back in the game again !!

The ice probe says it is rated up to 55g. Is there only one model? I figured with all the pondfoam I would lose half the volume or so.
I see diff prices on the auction sites. I saw the coolworks rated for 30g. It looks like a heatsink with a fan and thats it.
I'm working on getting a chiller and will look into the rondo or ronco controller u mentioned.

It's "rated" for a tropical tank where it's only dropping from 81 to 78 not from 78 to 55 1" thick acrylic will drastically improve chiller efficiency. But ice probes are used on 2gallon pico tanks and two are used 8 gallon tanks for example.

Lol I was tempted to I'm you about your tank when you had it in the classifieds. And thought well damn he's already got a tank for Coldwater and picked my current one. Lol. I'll let ya know if I find a chiller man
