we are thinking of taking a day trip to New Orleans to see the aquarium.. i was wondering if everything was back to normal after Katrina....does anyone know...i know they are open, but is it the same as it was????

From what i hear from freinds that went to New Orleans is that its still a mess over there and not a whole lot looks to be done. A lot of roads are still closed or blocked off.

I went a couple months ago, we had a great time & the aquarium looked perfectly intact. Most of downtown is fully operational & looking great. Only the outer regions are messed up & having problems.

they got in tons of trouble not too recently. fema was going to reimburse them something like $600,000 to buy all new replacements for their fish. so they thought it would be cheaper to go out and catch their own fish which they did for a cost of only $100,000. but now fema would not reimburse them even though they saved the government half a million dollars. government at its best, eh? fr more info just go a search on the internet, lots of articles on it.

Fema changed its mind and approved the payment. THe rules said for FEMA to pay for the replacement they had to be store bought instead of wild caught, because it would be easier to verify the correct price.
