How long do you leave the shrimp in?

Using a raw shrimp to kick start my new tank cycling. How long do I leave the shrimp in there to rot?

I never heard of that way. I have always just added a little of flake food every few days. then I put in a peppermint shrimp get the bacteria growing better.

I do neither... add some seachem stability and 2 damsel's

Raw shrimp is very common for starting a new tank. Put it in a nylon stocking for easy removal. But it is an older method Especially with all the available Bacteria in a Bottle that's available.
You can leave it in permanently as many do. Or take it out when nothing but the echo skeleton is left.

The shrimp trick works well and saves a little fish from going through the toxic nightmare that is a cycle The fish food trick is also a good one.

Just leave it in it will have released enough amonia to get things going.

Like myself there are many who prefer to use clean, pest free dry rock. Cook for two weeks, SeaChem Stability for two weeks. Cycles done!! No pests and no unwanted algae
