How many is too many clams?

I see all kinds of pictures with multiple clams in a tank and very close together. Is it possible to have too many clams in a tank.

How many clams would be too many for a 55gal tank?

When you start stacking them, then you got to many. I think the limiting factors would be, keeping Ca, Alk, Mg levels up.

i agree, they don't hurt each other directly, they just will die once they stop getting what they need, so i'm guessing enough so that they all get enough light along with what dave mentioned water stuff, i'd also leave them room to grow
