Its 2lbs for 1 gal of water correct?

How many pounds would you all recommend for a 185?
I believe that there is about...300-380lbs in there...

It looks faboulus (sp)...But now I just had a thought of it being TOO much weight...

my pics are too big to post here..but could email them

i don't think you can measure it by weight as rocks have different densities, i'd do what looks good and what your stand will hold and then if you need more for filtration put it in the sump.... as for rule of thumb i think it' s1 to 1.5 lbs per gallon, but it depends on how porous and what not and how you arrange them, my thoughts...

I've heard 1-2lbs per gal, but I agree with "MarineTeng" it depends on the type of rock and how porous it is. Also, depending on what tank inhabitants you have, will determine as well how much filtration your tank will need in terms of LR. :)

depends on what you are using the rock for. if for filtration then I think 2 lbs is sufficient per gallon. You do not have to place all in the tank. you need to allow enough room for the fish to swim freely. I also think your aquascape will dictate how much you can have.

1-2lbs per gal is what I'm familiar with but more is not necessarily better. The more rock you have the more flow you'll need to insure you don't have any dead spots in the tank or in the rock. I fought this in my 180 that had 325lbs of nice Kaelini LR in it. I'm down to about 200lbs. The fish seem happier, I know b/c they told me and I like the look better. :)

lol what did the fish, say?

"HEy get your azz over here and take some of the ROCK out f er!"

ROFL oldsaint

I have 200lbs distribuated in a 75 and 2 30's. (and a little more in a 20 grow out tank.) I like to blow it off from time to time with an aux. hose I have hooked to the main pump. and yes it is good to have plenty of flow around and through it. I have mine built so there is caves and spaces between the rock best I could do to try to keep away from dead spots.

remember rock blocks flow. I think aquascaping is very important to the health of you coral and fish. they need places to hide.

I agree with Brad. Its nice to have rock, but you never want to cause a dead spot in your tank for build up. :)

LOL
