I've always had good luck with vinegar or maybe even a vinegar/baking soda mixture. At least those work on automotive electrical connectors. Otherwise you might be able to use some steel wool to clean the connector. (?)
Not sure I would take steel wool to a pH electrode. Maybe a soft tootchbrush and vinegar, although I would research that first. Maybe a vinegar dilution
