On a side note Lois Caps is also a committe member. What a gem this lady is! She introduced legislation to pay for tattoo removal with public tax dollars for former gang members.

I sent a message to Rep. Hastings and although he won't respond because I'm not in his district, it still shouldn't stop everyone else from doing the same. Hoping this doesn't make it out of committee doesn't cut it. Stand up and do something. Despite what most have been led to believe, Hope doesn't do *$%@.

well, I was speaking metaphorically, I know EVENTUALLY something LIKE this may pass....
Lets hope it's proposed by "strong entities" who have actually done their f'ing homework this time...and arent a bunch of dopes...and that's coming from a knee jerk liberal environmentalist.

I wonder if our hobby might fall under the provision regarding " any species that is already so widespread that any prohibition would have no practical utility"

Sec. 4.a.1.B

Well, only in an Obama presidency i could see something like this happen. The less freedom the better right?

Update as of today on the bottom of the page: http://www.pijac.org/governmentaffairs/hr669forum.asp

I thought the PIJAC's testimony that was submitted to the committee was well written. I have a hard time believing this bill will ever be passed. Maybe a state by state solution though? I could see Florida having a lot of bans against it for all the non-native species that can survive and do harm there. Boa constrictors, etc...

Luke, this same bill was put before Congress last year, during Bush's presidency. Just figured I'd toss that out there for you to chew on. I'd rather this not turn into a political debate, but the fact is, Obama, nor his being our president, have anything to do with this.

As for a state by state solution...that is what will ultimately happen. Several states, including Florida have already passed MANY such laws. In fact, Florida and Hawaii have about the strictest forms of these laws, already in place. The fact is, this is a "State's Rights" issue and the Federal Govt does not have the right to pass laws that should be governed by State's Rights.
