Wow, I just had the best thing done.....last week I went in for Lasik surgery on my eyes. I've been wearing glasses for 25 years since I went into the service, and after about 40 seconds worth of procedure I dont wear them anymore. The next day I was 20/15 :D . They told me I will have to wear reading glasses within 5 years (who cares) and probably right away but so far my near vision is unaffected. It was absolutly painless, I mean nothing. They said I might feel like I had stuff in my eyes for a few days, but I didn't feel anything. I went out and bought the first real pair of sunglasses I've had since I was 20.

Good job Stan, you'll love it, I had it done about 5 years ago, I love it...but it doesn't stop the normal degredation of your sight, keep seeing your eye Dr. I'm getting old, and even after the surgery, I need glasses for night driving now, going to see the eye Dr. this month... :)

But enjoy no contacts and glasses...and go get some cool sunglasses...that's one of the best parts... :)

CONGRATS DOOD !!

aahh i bet is nice not to have to wear glasses, i've been wearing glasses since i was 6 :p and now i wear contacts and i tell you is a pain in the butt to have to wake up and see everything blurry around you  .

fantastic - hey if you don't mind me asking.. how much did that cost ya out of pocket all said and done.. just curious.

Sounds great Stan!! Glad it was you and not me though:p My eyes are my most scornful part of my body besides my backside(LOL). I am so glad I have 20/20 vision otherwise I don't think I could do the lasik:D

Mike, yeah they told me about the fact that my eyes will still age and that I "will" need reading glasses for sure, like guaranteed. I expect to need glasses at night some day too, but for now it feels good to be over 40 and rid of full time glasses for awhile.

Gabby, I tried the contacts thing too, years ago, but I couldnt wear soft ones due to an astigmitism (sp) (which the Lasik fixed too) so I never could stand it.

Ben, well technically the surgery cost $3600.00 My insurance doesnt pay much but they did pick up $750.00. So that left me with about 2850.00......but I am using part of a VEBA account through work to pay for it all. I paid up front then the VEBA reimburses me. Technically I paid into the account over the years but so did my employer. There are cheaper places and different procedures, but I went to "Dr Lomas" who is a huge pioneer of Lasik, plus I had the Allegreto interlase which is more expensive but "cuts" on a radius rather than a flat plane. It leaves your corneas thicker and eliminates a lot if not all the "halo" effect people get at night.

Krish, I hope you always have 20/20 dude, glasses suck. It was really wierd to think about them lasering my eyeballs but I just kept thinking about all the successful surgeries I've heard about so it wasn't so bad.

I have been blessed with descent vision all my life, I recently started wearing reading glasses. Doc told be its for stigmatism, But who cares. MY fiance says I should have lasik ear surgery, cuz when Iam on the puter I dont hear her. LOL well so much for that excuse anymore , she got me a hearing aid from a second hand store for XMAS. lol Like Iam gonna wear it.

hehe yeah i have astigmitism too and another one that i can't remember...in a few, if i take my contacts out i can't see anything not even close :p.
The contacts definetly are anoying but i rather wear contacts than glasses because everytime that i go outside they get wet when it's raining and i can't run with them :p .
My husband is the same he can't see without contacts ....... one thing is funny is that at night when we go to bed we gotta be touching walls and what not to see where we're going  .
