I have a refugium that I have been trying to get some calurpa to grow in but have not been able to. First I tried cheato, it just ended up dissentigrating, then grape, it did the same thing. Lastly I tried, I believe it's called razor? Some of it turned a whitish color then most of it dissapeared.

Why am I not able to keep calurpa? Is there a possibility that if I have low nutrient levels that I'm starving them off?

Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks!

What kind of light do you have over your refugium? I have grown chaeto in my sump after I made the mistake of using caluerpa and it spread to my main tank.....I hated the stuff. I use a little 17w power compact light. Chaeto likes high water flow or being tumbled, which you probably have low flow in your refugium. It is a possibility that you have low nutrient levels but your chaeto or caluerpa should still be growing. I would advise trying the chaeto again since it can't go sexual like caluerpa and polute your tank.

Depending on what your levels are at (nitrates, photphates etc) then it is quite possibly there isn't enough nutrients in your system to suupport them. I'd test your water's parameters to see where everything is at and that way, it will give you an idea on what is going on. Just a thought :)
