I was checking out for copepods in the return section of my sump when i noticed two of them that didn't quite look right. It was two Bangaii Cardinal babies hovering above my sump pump screen. I got them out of there and into a 10 gallon. I didn't put the filter in there so they don't get sucked up into the filter, just an air stone, heater and filled the tank with 2/3rds water from the main tank. What should I feed these guys and is there anything else I should do to help their survival?

There is a PSAS member that has rotifers. I dont know how big the bangaii's are, if they could eat baby brine shrimp or not.

Oh, the member is KingNeptune.

Thanks Lorrie, I will check them out. They are about a 1/4" long from nose to tail, cute little suckers.

I need to get my son down here with his fancy schmancy Nikon camera, and give him the challenge. HA HA

I just called my son and he said as long as they don't swim around too much. I told him they swim a little but they mostly hover and there probably won't be a problem with them swimming too much. He said that he thinks he can take pictures of them. If he can I will post them if we are successful.

Congrats N1, where in Renton? Im in Renton too, maybe we can snap some cute pics of those babies.... congrats!!!

They thrive on newly hatched baby brine shrimp

I'm going to try to post some pics - not sure how to do this.

When mine spit the babies out I put them in a 1 gallon hex tank that sat inside the parents 20 gallon tank.
I fed them newly hatched brine.

Thanks Mfinn, I was wondering how much bigger do they need to get before I can move them into the main tank and how long will that take?

I kept them in their own tank for about 3 months and I think they were about 3/4". I usually traded them at a lfs that was open for a while in Lacey.
Mike ( herefishyfishy ) and Paul (fragman) have been doing these guys for quite a while. They would be the ones to get current info on raising those babies.
I did mine about 10-12 years ago when they first started showing up at lfs.
I discovered my babies by luck also the first time.

My son just left, took a bunch of pictures of the baby bangaii's and of my tank, corals and fish. He is going to get the pictures onto Smugmug and send them to us. I will post some more when I get them. I am sure they are much better than the ones I took.
