Setting up a new 125 gallon tank. Have only 8 months experience.
Please anything will help.
Thank you
:D

Lots of info here and helpful people.
Lets start with what you have so far...
Tank pumps lights stand..?
Plans for the tank and live stock plans or options??

hi,mouse lol.I pretty much have notting right now,but the tank.
well right now I'm looking for rocks and sands but its just expensive lol.
so i'm trying to get whatever and work from there, little by little.thanks for your time.

Spend more for better equipment now, if not you will end up buying better equipment later and you initial investment will be lost. Cutting corners now will make a more expensive learning curve later. Sure would be nice to have all the money back trying to do it for cheap, only realizing later it cost me more in the long run.

Great advice here!! I don't even want to add up the cost of using less than par equipment for this hobby. This hobby you truly get what you pay for as far as equipment goes. The 1st thing to invest in for a successfull reef tank besides the tank itself is a good RODI unit! The last thing on most folks list when they are starting up. Then go down the list of equipment starting with the essential to get the system up and running. Here is a list of things I would look into getting if I was to start from scratch again. Here are the key component IMHO that will get you started off.

RODI
Good skimmer
Good PH for flow
lighting
LR
LS- if not going BB

SO pretty much everything Sarang?

No that is not everything. There are many more things. That is the essentials to get the system started the heart per say. Then you will need to add the equipment to maintain your water parameters and health of your sytem such as a Kalk reactor, calcium reactor, ATO, Ozone, chiller and so on and so forth. So there is some item to add to your list Seth:lol::lol::lol:

Got the kalk and ATO...don't need a calc rx yet...and so I have a few months before the chiller....lol

True that. I can't stress a well designed sump. It will save a lot of headaches. Also a great skimmer.

Unless you are worried about looks. You can turn any used or new tank into a sump. All yuou need is a few baffles and you are set.

hey i was planning on using my 39g as a sump for the 125g.I also need like 3 t5 bulbs for that 125g too it used to be a fresh water tank. All that stuff you said roscoe,a Kalk reactor, calcium reactor, ATO, Ozone, chiller, sounds like $ $ $ lol. but i'm sure the outcome is going to be great.

3 T-5 bulbs does seem like much to me. I believe Adam has 2 250 watt and 2 T-5 actinic. I think you'll need at least 5 bulbs if you go T-5 only if you plan on keeping SPS.

ok,well that just such lol.yea cuz the tank comes with that hood and it fixes nicely.thats why i was planning using that instead of mh
