I had a yellow tang that had gotten Ich, because of that I took out all fish to treat them in a QT for 5 weeks. I placed all of the fish back in 3 days ago and now my Hippo Tang is rubbing up on the rocks and I can see a white spot on his fin. I guess I will put them all back in QT for another 5-7 weeks but how can I made sure to KILL it all in my display tank? Thoughts on what to do?

Welcome to RF !!

I would read the following stickys:

To answer your question about how to kill Ich in main display...Ich needs a host (that is, a fish) to survive..remove the host and the Ich cycle is killed...therefore you will need to go fallow (fishless) for 6-8 weeks...

Depending on how many fish you have, you may want to stagger the addition of fish from QT to DT after the fallow period.

Hmm, I was Fishless for 5 weeks and the fish were treated with cupramine after It first popped up but guess I should have went longer. I need a bigger QT so I will be getting them out ASAP. I have 6 fish Yellow tang, Hippo tang, Ocellaris Clowns, Royal Gramma, and a Flame Hawkfish. Also a bunch of inverts.

5 weeks is not long enough...IMO, if you are going fishless just bite the bullet, go 8 wks and there should be no question in your mind it is long enough.

also rule of thumb is 5 gallons of tank water for every 1 inch of fish..

if you plan on using copper, you might want to read this sticky as well:

Ditto that. 8 weeks is minimum for QT and the fallow period for making sure Ich is not present.

Well the fish will be out of the tank for 8 weeks this time. Also im going to rebuild my tank. I found a guy local getting rid of a larger tank and I would like to use eveything in mine 55 but would also like to kill as many paratites off of everything befor placing it in the new tank. I know people dip there corals but what about rock? Also what could I do for the sand?

Tangs are very prone to ich especially if stressed and being that you have 2 in a 55 would lead me to think this might be part of the cause. Many people suggest no tangs in a 55 let alone 2. It's good that you're upgrading but you will still need to be careful about the number of tangs and the size of your tank. Personally I have a 75 and will not get any tangs because of tank size and to avoid ich. I'm not trying to tell you how to run your tank or what fish just a possible reason for why you have ich.

Fresh water rinse in as hot of water that your hands can handle. Id do about a half hour. Cleaner wrass eat the parasite along with cleaner shrimp. I got a magnificent foxface that broke out with ich when I got him in my tank. The way I cured my tank was a cleaner wrass. And haven't seen a single one scence, and that was months ago.

All fish carry the parasite. But durring stress and low immune they can't fight it. My foxface didn't have ich when I got him. I watched him for a while before I bought him. I believe mine was just the stress of moving.

Raamiah,

Will you be at the next PSAS meeting? Im trying to attend and maybe we can talk more on this. The tank im going to is a 150G and I will def need some help from PSAS memmers to get me going on this tank, as I want to drill it and run a sump.

I should be if it's moved to the 24th. I'd be happy to help though I'm sure some other members are more knowledgable than I am.

I will take all the help I can get really. I'm not sure on how big of a sump or how it should be built. I have the tools and resources TO build it but need help with design along with the overflows. I would feel beter about it if I had someone to talk to about it in person as they looked at it... Also I'm not sure about adding my current sand/rock as I dont want to bring in crap that I might have already from my learning curve 55g tank.

mercenary-grunt,

thanks for the info, If I had to guess from your name, would you happen to work on Lewis?

Let me know and I'd be happy to see the setup and help you get the tank up and running. Doesn't have to be the next meeting. Shoot me a PM and we can brainstorm.
