I've looked at books, I've looked on line at various websites about wrasses and I can not find this guy anywhere. He/she seems to be reef safe for the most part. Kind of aggressive in eating but I dont think its damaging anything. Can someone ID it and will I have a problem with it eating or tearing up my sps or zoas?
The top half of his body is blue, lower is white. Orange stripe around his head and pink in the dorsal fin and a pink stripe at the top and bottom of the tail fin.

Thanks

Looks kinda like a Hawaiian Saddle wrasse...not sure.

I was looking at that one too. Saddles are blue head orange stripe and green body and tail but there is no green on this one. This one is probably female with the white belly, so it could possibly be a Saddle wrasse. I'll pm Les and see if he has an idea.

Okay, I am waiting for a responce from Les. Hopefully he can tell me for sure what it is, however if it is a hawaiian saddle wrasse I will be rehoming it to a larger system. They supposedly get to 10". She's only about 4.5" now and she has found her sleeping space already so she will be easy to catch at night. Hopefully.

Does she do the sand dive at night? Pretty cool watching one of those fish dive into the sandbed.

No, actually she is sleeping in a hole in one of the rocks. I have a shallow sand bed in that tank.

So here is a couple better pics. Still no idea what it is, but so far its doing great. The yellow tang puts it in its place once in a while. He keeps everyone in line. He thinks!!!! Anyway, here is a couple new pics of the wrasse.

Yes it is a Hawaiian Saddle Wrasse male Thalassoma duperrey 100% positive ID it is the most abundant wrasse in Hawaii Aloha Les @ WPH

Thank you Les.

Okay, so it is. Looks like it is in its transition phase. They get up to 10" long and this guy will be too big for this tank. Ha, some info online says a 55 gal tank is sufficient. Well maybe when its this size, but not when it gets bigger. So its in a 75 now and as active as it is, it wont be long, I will have to rehome it. I may get to see his colors change though. That will be cool.
