i need to figure out how to build a stand for my 90 gallon that lets me use a 55 gallon under as a sump any ideas?

shouldnt be that tall haha i just wonder if anyone here has built a stand like this before that hides the sump inside the stand ?

biggest hurdle is the annoying lack of working room, just drop something in there and see what Im saying lol, can you do a remote sump?

yeah i guess there would need to be enough room to get into the sump which would make the stand taller. im kinda new to the saltwater ive only had one other 40b set up before but i half assed it cuz i got too exited. so im not really sure what a remote sump is?

Jlux23,
Shoot me a PM I can answer any Qs you may have about building a stand that you can work with.

the only reason i wanted to use the 55 is cuz i have an extra one laying around and id probably die by the hands of my ol lady if i bought another tank haha.

Trust me ask peppie...he'll answer any question you have!

But yes I have built about 4 stands to fit sumps underneath. There is a lot of thought process that goes into it because there is a lot more to it than just teh sump to make it worth while to custom build a stand....but again I would talk to peppie.

You could build one w/acrylic sheet and weldon 16 and save the 55 for a partitioned QT set-up for the fish you want to add. Honestly, you don't ever want a sump that is more than 16" tall as it affects every equipment instalation and maintenance thereof. Plan it to accomidate an effective skimmer footprint and hight allowance/clearance and a refugium section.

Keep in mind the cost of an acrylic sump from scratch will be much higher than just baffling off a glass tank.

what i had in mind was using the 55 as the sump then baffeling it like you said with acrylic. i have also had in mind for sometime the idea of just doing a in tank fuge where i could just seclude a portion of it. i saw my cousin Jon do that with a 20 long for his mantis shrimp it was pretty cool. although there is more appeal in a larger tank to me, i do have some larger fresh water fish to take into consideration for the larger tank as well.

A regular stand is 30" tall most of my customer prefer 32-34". A 55 is a little tall but the footprint of a 90 makes doing a 42" stand doable and in my opinion a nice viewing level. The one thing I would question is the floor structure. Ive done many extra tall stands but the floor had to be reinforced so the small amount of give does not amplify the sway. In other words all wooded floors have give. With a short setup the give is not noticeable or is only barely noticeable but by the time you add ten inches the top of the tank will have quite a noticeable movement. If its close to a wall a simple turn buckle or french cleat setup will also stop all sway and be safe.

i built an ugly stand for my 120 just so i could run it that i made at 40 inches and it put the tank right at eye level for me and i loved it. it fit my 55 under it but it was super ugly im just trying to do it nice this time
