Where can i pick up the medication for treating redbugs. I noticed my tank is infected and did some research. Apparently, I need to crush a portion of the interceptor pill and pour it into my tank. Anyone have extra or can steer me in the direction to buy some.

Do lots of research on it. You'll need to get the interceptor from a vet, it's prescription. Kinda fun finding a vet that will prescribe interceptor for a reef tank, since it's actually a medication for Dog Heartworms.

Print out and take web documentation with you, might help.

There's also been a few people on RF lately, who have used Melafix. Do a search here for Melafix and you should find those threads.

Having worked in the veterinary field as a technician and being in the reef hobby, I've talked to alot of vets about the interceptor treatment. Many of them are open to prescribe it as long as you bring them some documentation of it's use, dosage, etc. Melafix works good as a dip but if you're tank is infested, then dipping corals one at a time isn't going to work so well. The interceptor will kill most of your crabs, shrimp, pods...make sure you research it alot before you just "dump" it into your tank. Good luck

I was pleasantly surprised when the first vet I visited was receptive. I'd recommend Meadow Hills Vet Clinic in Kennewick for anyone in Eastern Washington looking for interceptor. I took a printout on redbugs and the dosing amounts for interceptor from the web, along with a nice photo of our tank to show her what we were trying to save, and also the link to the thread on reefcentral.

The vet asked me to leave the information with her so she could look it over and check out the web sites during her lunch break. After lunch she called me and said she'd reviewed the info. and also called and talked to a biologist friend about the type of 'bug' it was, and said she'd be happy to prescribe interceptor. She even took the time to calculate out how much we needed to dose our total of ~200 gallons of water and gave us enough to dose 3 separate times plus some extra for dipping new corals.

She then asked if there was any way I could bring in an infected coral when I came to pick up the interceptor, only because she was interested in seeing the red bugs with her microscope. I took in a couple frags for her to check out when I went to pick up the prescription and we now have a patient file at the vet for our 'pet' named "acropora". :)

She didn't charge for the office visit and the time she took to research it, only charged for the prescription. (She seemed to enjoy something different for a change.) I would hope most vets would help as long as you bring them some data. They have forms you can sign saying you understand that you are getting a prescription for a use it wasn't intended for and won't hold them liable.
