Is 88 pounds of live rock to much for a 58 gallon tank? Will the tank look like just live rock and no room for fish to move around?

That's somewhat up to you for corals and filtration thats a perfect amount for fish only you can get by with less I have a 55 gallon with 100 lbs and will be re aquascaping to get it shaped. My plan is to Drill holes Ø 5/8" so I can stick acrylic rod in and glue in place to place the different pieces together stacked up higher and away from the edges and underneath as well so it's off the bottom and as my corals are now attached in some places this will be a bit of a mess but I am convinced this is what I must do in a month or so wish me luck :)

idgy - it depends also on the type of rock, as to how much room it will take up. Some rock is more dense than others, so one piece might weigh more compared to a similar sized rock that is more porous. Something to keep in mind - when aquascaping, try and allow for good flow and avoid stagnant spots where detritus might collect. It will make a great spot for algae. A solid wall of rock may not be a good choice if it inhibits water flow. Also, don't be afraid to break up pieces to create shapes you are looking for, as plack indicated by drilling holes he will be able to put rocks together in ways that might not be done by only stacking rocks.

Depending on the fish you will keep, they may enjoy a lot of live rock - it will provide them with hiding spots, territory, a live food source, etc.

I have a 120 gal fish only with about 160 lbs of rock, 100 of which I just added. The fish love it. They are allready more active, more colorful and eating better!

If you have a bow saw they cut live rock like butter. Masonry drills make great holes and you can drill a pattern of holes and then break out the remaining bits and make caves. For what its worth. LOL Steve

well, I ordered my live rock today and I got 72 pounds of ultra tonga. I hope that will be enough for a 58 gallon.

idgy - I think you'll be great with that. Be sure to keep us updated with photos if you can! Is the live rock uncured or cured?
