besides getting all the different chemicals etc. is there a simple way to test teh water qulaity? i lost few fish (impror angel and a box fish) few days ago and an anenome (a long tentacle).. the rest of fish and corals are ok... thank you!

You could take it to the LFS and have them run the tests for you. There is a charge for it but.......It's EASY!
Octopus, the most reliable and accurate way is to test yourself, using quality test kits. Salifert and Elos are very reliable, for consumer brand test kits. They are a little more complicated than the "dip strips" but will show you much more reliable results.

or you can send your water off to a professional company that tests saltwater.
I recently used AWT, http://aquariumwatertesting.com/
once the payment is received they send you a styrofoam box with two vials that you fill with your tank water..they have a box with pre-paid label and you send it off to their lab..you can view the results online and download pdf file if you choose.
there is also a local company in Tacoma that does the same thing...but the name escapes me...DonW knows the name...
