Is this too goood to be true?

As I was driving a few days ago I found aother LFS. I went in and it was very nice. Lots of nice fish, corals, etc. They were closing soon so only the manager was there. As I asked him questions about the fish he asked if I wanted to see the QT tanks. Turns out that he QT's everything before he puts them "out" for sale. He had about 10 QT tanks goin' in the back. This guy knew his stuff. Do you guys think this is for real? Could I buy a fish and put it in my tank without QTing them myself? What would you guys do? Thanks.

i qt everything!!! i only trust myself when dealing with my tank.. he could have made a mistake and introduced something by accident back into the qt tanks, and you would never know until it was too late...only trust yourself when dealing with your tank..it is too big of a risk not to!!!!!

that isnt too good to be true, there are some LFS that have a QT system for all their new arrivals, Indoor Reef in Tacoma Wa does this as well..

Part of me thinks that I should still QT because it would really suck to get ick or something like that again. That was horrible. Still, this guy seemed very sure of himself and he does many of the businesses and restaurants in and around Chicago. But I don't know I think Im going to go again today to see if I meet any of his customers to see if they have had good experiences. It would be great if this was true. But it would really suck to be wrong about this.

it could be true, but you have no way of knowing unless you performed the qt process yourself

We have a really nice large store here in Houston and they qt every fish that comes into their store. Most of my fish are from them and I have only had 1 problem and that was with my powder blue. The powder blue is fine now but they are heads above most of the other LFS's in town in doing this. Cuts down on fish loss and customers have better results too.

It's great that some LFSs QT their livestock. Question I'd be asking is HOW LONG??? To make absolutely sure that your livestock is as healthy and disease free as possible, I'd think you'd have to QT for at least 4 weeks. I just added a lawnmower blenny to my 46 that had been in my QT tank for 5 weeks. It would be very hard for a LFS to do business if they QTd everything for a long period of time. Maybe I'm wrong about the length of time needed for QT though.

my one lfs wont sell you what ever he gets or orders, for you until they have been qt'd for a good month or so..... he says he doesnt sell crapy (thos were not his words) fish to people to have them say he sold them crapy fish.

Well I just got back from the store and the guy wasnt there but one of the employees was. She said that noone has ever complained about his fish and that he QTs for 30 days. I wonder if this is long enough? Ive always Qtd for 40.

It's good that they "QT" their fish but I'd still do it myself on top of that. A lot of fish stores have all their tanks on a common filtration system and all it takes is one diseased fish to infect them all. Don't risk it!

Also take the fact that "no one has ever complained" with a grain of salt. How do you know he's telling the truth?
