Hi
I just bought a used Iwaki MD40 pump. Wondering if I should open it up and inspect the O-ring and impeller now and/or with regularity in the future or if you generally only open it if you get an obvious problem? Manual only talks about opening it for problems. I neglected maintenance on a couple pumps in the past and would like to do things right in the future.
Thanks,
Kate

I usually just tip them up so that I can pour vinerger inside and let it soak for a day or so. Flush with freshwater and maybe do it all over again. Maybe bump it with power for a second inbetween vinerger soaks. (Watch for flying vinerger)
If you find that it adds alot of heat, then I would open it up and look for stuck shells or calcium deposits.

if bought used I would replace all the seals now better now then hooking it up and find there is a issue with it. I am rebuilding all of my pumps before I add them to the system less headache IMO
