Hi,

I recently noticed my tank temperature shot up to 84 for no reason. Today I found out that my two fans on the hood of the JBJ nanocube 24gallon isn't working. Has anyone experienced this before? I bought the tank less than a year ago. Any suggestions how I go about this? Thanks!

Wow! Sorry to hear that! I've never heard of the fans going out on them before, but I'm sure they can be replaced. You may even be able to swap them with an aftermarket fan not necessarily a JBJ fan. I've never taken one a part before to see what they actually look like, but I'm sure you can find something to match up. In the meantime, what are you doing to keep the temp down? Maybe you can get a regular fan and maybe sit it on a chair or something and let it blow on the surface of the tank water by opening the lid. I hope you get sorted out soon:)

I opened the hood up to take a look. I don't think it is the fan. It is the circuit board that controls the fan. I see rust on the board and on one of the part. So if I can get a replacement on the board, I think it will work. Unfortunately, I can't call JBJ on sat...so I have to wait until Monday to see what they can do.

For now, I removed the heater. When lights are off, it stay at 82 degrees. When lights come on, it gets to 84. But I have to take care of this or it will be warmer in the winter. Fortunately, nothing really died in my tank. I did notice some corals weren't opening...hence I start to look around for the cause. Once i bring it back to 82 degrees, things start opening up.

If anyone really know under the hood of the nanocube, please let me know if you have any other ideas. :)

Maybe you can look for someone who has a damaged Nano Cube (like a cracked tank) that the top is still good on which you can buy off of them and replace yours. Maybe start up a thread in the equipment forum maybe titled something like "Want to buy or looking for JBJ nano cube parts etc" and see if anyone bites. I know a lot of people don't browse the whole forum and only go in the equipment for sale forum looking for something to buy or sell so you may have a better shot at getting what you want...Just a thought. HTH:)

Nhan - I haven't experienced this with my 12 gallon nanocube. Hopefully, JBJ will be able to help you out tomorrow. In the meantime, can you leave the front flap of the top open? It might help to keep the tank cooler than having the top totally closed.

Be sure to keep us updated on what JBJ tells you.

That's what I did, open the flap to help cool it down. It wasn't a big problem this weekend as the temperature was cooler. I am just a bit worried about the summer.

I called JBJ and they told me it was a 6 month warranty not a year. Oh well. Good news is that the replacement circuit board is $10, so I can try it to see if it fixes the issue or not. If it doesn't, then I might have to post to see if I can buy a hood from someone.

Thanks for the advice. I will let you know how it goes.

I got the replacement circuit board today, after changing it...one of the fan worked! The other one is dead...so I will go buy a replacement fan. At least it looks like one fan is keeping water cool enough...though I didn't have much trouble keeping it cool in Seattle weather past week. :)
