Alright, this is frustrating.

Went and picked up some clowns at Barrier Reef Aquariums, and the damsel FINALLY, after a year of having him, posed an issue with the tank. He immediately started giving the clowns a hard time, so thus started the process of trying to get him out.

Started with just a net and food. This was not too successful, though I tried moving rocks around and such.

Then I went to ye old Freddies and picked up the smallest fish hooks I could find, and baited it with a few Mysis shrimps. That damned Damsel didn't buy it for a second (the clowns were more than interested however).

So then I started studying his route. I cleared out one side of the tank, and chased him into the clear area with a spoon, and had a family member try to net the $&*#. After many attempts, we got him in the net....AND HE SWAM THROUGH IT!!! There was one hole in the net I had cut a couple weeks earlier to get a stuck fish out of. Easily, most aggravating thing EVER.

Tomorrow is a new day. Any more ideas? I would like to avoid taking rocks out of the tank...

PS: I did sew up the hole in the net, so that won't happen AGAIN.

PSS: The hooks were barbless, so please don't ride my @$$ about that one :lol:

Barbless hooks...no big deal... By the time this is over you my be looking to use a spear gun on it. LOL!

i've always had great luck with coke bottle DIY fish traps...... fastest I caught a hungry fish was 5 minutes once!! hehehe

definitely recommended - especially if you have some empty 2 liter bottles floating around your house

I tried getting a tail spot blenny out, did everything you tried except fishing, (never been good at that either). I tried the DIY Coke bottle to no avail, he swam close but, no go. I've got two and only need one, but I think both are going to remain because he won't fall for my tricks.

Well, I caught him lost a LOT of water, but hey, works out right?

Didn't even have to take all the rock out!

Congradulations! What size of hooks did you use-HA HA? I still am not having much luck with catching this tail spot blenny.

I'd second the 2 liter coke bottle method, it worked well for me when I needed to catch an aggressive wrasse.

UPDATE*UPDATE* I just caught him. I backed him into a rock and then netted him.

if you know where area of the tank they sleep at night, you can use the flashlight with red film method....with the lights out and completely dark, rubberband a piece of red film paper on the end of the flashlight and then shine into tank with net in the other hand...the fish dont see red light so they are oblivious..sorta like a sneak attack at nite...

i used this method to catch a pair of cinnamon clown fish in my 375g tank in 10 mins..these were the first fish in my tank 4yrs ago....

Yeah I just caught the little twerp. He backed down into a rock and I put a net over the top of it and bought it to the top of the tank, turned to rock upside down and he came out into the net. VICTORY IS MINE! He will go into my small tank until I find a new home for him.

Ive used this (or close to it) method of night catching for many fish with great success. Any way, with elusive fish, I like to attack when they're sleeping

He/she is caught and is now residing in my 10 gal. tank until I find him/her a new home. I got lucky.
