How important is it to dose kalk at night during lights out?
I am going to add a kalk reactor to my tank soon and need to know if....
I hook it up to my ATO, and my ATO comes on 4 times in a 24 hour period. Will this be alright?
Or do I need to set my ATO to replenish my evaporated water ( thru the kalk reactor) only at the lights out hours.

The tank uses about 3/4 of a gallon every 24 hours. How much can I top off at one time? All at once? or should the top off be done over a 6-8 hour time span?

Should I leave my 4 times a day top off as is?

Well, I wouldn't recommend dosing 3/4 a gallon of kalk at one shot for starters. LOL

If you hook it up to your ATO to dose every four hours it should be fine. Just make sure you don't go into stir or mix mode while your ATO is running or you'll dose a kalk paste type slurry into the tank.
The only reason people specifically dose at night is to off set a Ph drop. Ive never worried about it myself.
To answer your question directly, I would leave it at four times a day.

On all my tanks, I have always left it hooked to my ATO feed pump on a switch. It comes on every couple hours throughout the day

as trido stated,,at night ph drop,,are you try to raising ph//with ca hydroxide?slow drip is the key with ph monitoring

I have a TLF kalk reactor hooked up to my ATO with no time restrictions. All seems good. I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on your pH. If it gets really high for some reason during the day, you could re-evaulate
