I had been using Salinity by Aqua Vitro salt for the last couple of years and wanted to try Kent Marine because I have heard good things and also to save some money.

The problem is when I tried to mix it according to the directions to get 1.024-1.026 (which called for 2.5 cups plus about 5 oz. for 5 gallons of water), the reading was about 1.050!

Just wondering what others have experienced with this salt.

Ehh.. I don't measure the amount I put in. I'll get it going then check it with my refractometer, and adjust with more salt/ RODI water as needed.

I mix 3 gallons of water at atime and mix 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons and I get 1.025. I test each bucket and it is real close each time, if not I adjust either way. I have been using Kent Reef Salt for 5 years now. I would check the calibration of your meter. You should be at 1.025 at that measurement, either that or your not getting 5 gallons of water.
Mix 1 gallon and put in a 1/2 of cup and you should get a 1.023 reading.
