Hi Kevin,
It's Gina. I purchased a Monti Cap from you a while ago. It had a purple rim with a beige or light green main color. It has since, lost it's purple rim. Any idea of what this could be? I use all Salifert test kits and phosphate reads 0, Calcium 425, DKH 8.5. Can you give me some tips? Could the Salifert kits be wrong?

Here is a reminder of my lighting, it's the Aqualight Pro. 1 150 watt in the center with 2 65 watt PC's. Nitrites and Nitrates read 0. I am wondering if my test kits are bad, or if there is something I might not be thinking of. How long do your RO DI filters, regular filters, and membranes last at the store? Well, actually a better question would be how long do you think mine would last me? I'm in the valley and have the same water. Just wondering if something like that has anything to do with it. I have the Typhoon Reefkeeper. It's 7 months old. Haven't changed any filters on it yet. The purple rim seemed to go away though, about 1 month after I bought it from you. That was a while ago as well. Thank you to the member that reminded me to inform you of my nitrates, light, and nitrites. Thank you Kevin. Can't wait to buy some more corals from you. We are moving actually over on Valleyway. I'll be even closer to the store. LOL =)

Hi Gina,
That particular coral changes color due to light intensity/spectrum or changes in them. Under high Kelvin bulbs (15,000K+) it turns the most green with the really outstanding purple rim. If the light is too intense the base color turns cream with a faint colored rim. I would try placing it in a spot where it receives mostly PC lighting and see if the rim colors up. It should take about 14 days to change color.

Regards,
Kevin
PS: With your size tank and the valley water your filters should be fine.

Hi Kevin. I've got the Phoenix 14k bulb. It's kind of off to the side of the MH. I'll try it under just PC's when we move. This Friday. =/ I'm really scared to move my tank. We are moving into a home we just got that is a fixer upper. Oh it scares me right now.....It will look nice in the future. Right now it's a disaster. =(

Hopefully someday I can upgrade my tank. I hope you can too. God bless.
