Koran angel and cleaner

New to forum.
I currently have a Koran angel and know that I have to be very careful with what other livestock I can add. I want to add a tang later but only have the angel now. I was wondering if anyone has had success with adding a star or anything to clean the sand bed? I'm not into Blenny's, and would like to try a couple sand sifting stars or maybe a cleaner shrimp. Always open to sugestions.

Wish i could help you out but i'm here to learn. I too am planning on adding an angel to my tank in the future and i would like to know somethings about them.

I love the Koran angel but have never had one; I was under the impression they aren't reef safe. You didn't give any details on your tank setup; it might be hard for people to dispense advice without knowing a little more about what you have to work with.

All the literature I've read has indicated that the sand-sifting stars will slowly starve to death in all but the largest tanks. They also eat the sandbed fauna. If you have a DSB they'll likely disrupt it as well.

IMO, cleaner shrimp will get along with just about anything that doesn't like to eat shrimp. And angels don't eat shrimp, to my knowledge.

Slick has nailed it on all accounts. I love Korans, great personality. Best kept in non reef systems for sure. As juvi's they will usually leave corals alone but once they get to about 3-4", they'll eat whatever they come across.

Thanks all. The Koran is an awesome fish and has been through many feedings in the short time I've owned it. (1 week) It would eat 10 times a day if I would feed it. (I only feed it 3 small times a day) I am weighing more towards going with a cleaner shrimp. I have a FOWLR with a 2" sand bed. I do not do any type of coral's any more. Too many additives to put in the water.

You shouldn't have any trouble keeping the cleaner and angel together. I would recommend against the sand-sifting stars unless you have a very large established tank. Even then they don't make a great aquarium species.

Be sure to quarantine all new arrivals. Angels are susceptible to disease.
