I am going out of country for a little and I would like to keep an eye on my tank as well.
The main features I'm looking for are;
-controlling lights via computer or smartphone
-keeping tank parameters in check online
-controlling heater, calcium reactor and other equipment.

Now I am stuf between the aquacontroller III pro or the apex.
I'm getting a good deal on a used aquaIII Pro or I would have to buy the apex controller new for the retail price.
What would you guys suggest?

Well its a chunk of change either way so I would take a long term look at them. One thing yo may want to do is to make sure all the probes are in stock and easy to get for the pro model, I was having issues getting temp probe replacements for my pro, thats why I ended up go with a new apex.

+1 on Apex, looked/researched for quite awhile deciding between Apex and Elite and for my needs and tech level chose the Apex.

Cheers, Todd

Never heard of it, but as a linux fiend I can tell you that I would not trust open source development to my reef tank. I support the open source license programs fully, but there tends to be slow resolution to most problems and programming errors. I want something tried and true.
