I just went throu my book, "Marine Fishes. by Scott Micheal" and wanted to post some fish i like and will be keepin my tank when it cycles, which will be never. Maybe we can talk about them, since everyone knows that i like to talk. Even you Tom and B who dont talk to me anymore. and Steve just because i outposted you doesnt mean i dont like you. On with the ramblin'

1. 2 Black Clowns-Whole reason I started this hobby
2. 2 Orange Clowns (most likely Ocell) My wife is one of those "Nemo" people
3. Mandarian - After i come back from Guam, so that will be next year, dont worry
4. Yellow Tang - The one we have, its the only one we are keepin of the 4, so its like our "first fish" thing, plus its nice, maybe thats because it lives with 2 Damsels and a Devil (Lunare) Wrasse
5. Chalk Bass- Dont know anythin about them, but they look hardy and neato
6. Sunrise Dottyback- I like the blue and they are hardy
7. Springer Dottyback- Also blue and neat, can you have two same color dotty's in a tank?
8. Royal Gramma- Kinda cool, lots aroun' these parts (that is sayin alot too)
9. Yellow Assessor- Once i get some experience and money!
10. Yellow LongNose Butterflyfish- Neat lookin' fish
11. Coral Beauty- Last fish added, kind of a showpiece
12. Scribbled Angelfish- Dont know anythin about them, the book says Hardy and semi-reef (hit and miss)
13. LM Blenny-Funny little guys ay!
14. YW Goby- Funny little guys ay!
15. Curious Wormfish-Lets talk about this one, looks neat and likes passive tanks
16. Chevron Tang-I like them (not with C.Beauty thou)
17. Achilles Tang- When i go pro
18. I like filefish- what do you think?

Thats my list-pretty much every and all fish i like ;) What do you guys think? *besides i should goto bed Bri*

Mike you can reply in this one!

Hey Lee,
Well I understand that file fish are danger to a reef. My opinion of Dottybacks is that they are the devil. In a tank your size the clowns should be cool if all added at once. I hear the achiles tang can be a real pita if it takes a mind too. Chalk bass look cool. I have to go get ready for work. Later

I think that FileFish have a very special diet and are not good choices for a reef tank.

Thoughts

#5 - Chalk Bass - Cool fish - But will consume anything that fits in its mouth - This could be an issue if you are planning/hoping for small shrimps in your tank

#6 & #7 -- These are not friendly fish - And will devour anything that fits in their mouth - Shrimp or even small gobies/blennies.

#8 - Royal Gramma - Great fish - Try to put together a harem of these (up to 5) - They hang together and are very striking to the eye. The Brazilian Gramma is a prettier fish, but gets almost 3times as large - If this is a fish that you like also look into the black cap basslet.

#9 - Yellow Assessor - But think a group of them - They school up and are just awesome when they hang out upside down under overhangs of the tank -- Definitely I would recommend 4-8 assesors and skip the Pseudos - More active and enjoyable.

#10 - Long Nose - Great fish - For a fish only tank - For a reef I would rather have clams and LPS than a Long Nose

#11 - Coral Beauty - Possible Reef issues - In my area these are not really wild or unusual fish - Possible other options - Potters, or a African Flameback angel.

#12 - Scribbled -- Never been a striking fish - Just my subjective opinion - My options for a large angel would include - Gold Flake, Chrysurus, Red Sea Imperator, Red Sea Regal. - In most tanks the Scribbled usually looks washed out - you don't get that nice deep color.

#16 - Chevron - I think a Chevron is the epitome of Reef fish - I have almost always had one in my reef tank over the past 17 years. I don't like them when they get mature - But I usually can keep them for up to 5 years before they start to darken. Then I given them away and start over again.

#18 - FileFish - Is this a test to see if we are awake.....

Thanks guys, for shootin my dreams down *cry* No that really helps alot. Minus all the bad ones said, can i keep ALL the rest in my tank or is that way to crowded

May have problems with all the tangs, some people have alot of luck with multipul tangs, some don't. I think it depends on when they are introduced to the tank.

1. 2 Black Clowns
2. 2 Orange Clowns (most likely Ocell) 3. Mandarian - Maybe two (male spotted, female green)
3. Yellow Tang - Good ole' Sunnie!
4. Royal Gramma- What about these again? Need more than 1?
5. Yellow Assessor- Do Yellow and BLue Assessor school together?
6. Coral Beauty- Last fish added, kind of a showpiece
7. LM Blenny-Funny little guys ay!
8. YW Goby- Funny little guys ay!
9. Curious Wormfish-Lets talk about this one, looks neat and likes passive tanks
10. Chevron Tang-I like them (not with C.Beauty thou)

Achilles Tang- When i go pro

Thats pretty weak now guys

Might want to ask about all the clowns gettin' along. I tried to keep 2 clowns in the same tank with 2 diffewrent anenomes, and the one clown would gaurd both of them. Ended taking out the other one. I thought it would work.

From what you listed (this time :) )

3.) Yellow Tang -- Consider adding Purples, blacks or more yellows - Make sure you keep odd numbers - Adding them as a group is a good idea, if you can't then add them in pairs or trios.

4) Royal Gramma - You don't need more than 1 - But if you get a group it's reall cool

5) Assesors - Yes they will group together

10) Chevron is a pretty independent fish - Other than occassionally squabbling with other tangs - And one that hated a Venustus angel - They are great fish.

In my Fish only tank I have Purple Tangs, Yellows, Blue Hippos, and Red Sea Blonde Nasos - Total tangs in a 225 - 16

In my reef tank I have Purples (6), Yellows (2), Chevron (1) and a pair of African Yellow Belly Blues. There is an occassional chase but they all get along. A pair of the purples have been in the tank for over a year - And I recently added 4 small Purples without much of a problem.

In my frag tanks I have purple tangs in all the tanks, as well as an assortment of other tangs.
