what do you guys think?

the qt shouldn't have substrate or live rock in it....i would also just put out a few extra bucks on a 20g tank..it will be hard to observe a fish in qt that is in a bucket, but it would do the job if that is all you had

ya, i know a 10 gal tank is like 7 bucks most likely cheaper then the rubbermaid, but to get that volume it would cost more.

wait souldnt? like should not?

i was under the inpresstion that it would suport life with out some kind of filtration.

just a empty 10 gal tank with a hob filter light heat and movement? how will the water maintain level?

It needs to be a very basic completely cycled well maintained container large enought to house what ever you plan on putting in it. You need some sort of biofiltration such as a biowheel. Corals may need some sort of light and fish need hiding places like flower pots or plastic tubes. There is no short cut.

what are you planning on qt'ing???? i would go with a small tank..it would eliminate some problems that you could have with a bucket.....you will need a biowheel or filter media from a mature tank!!! just a basic setup: filter, heater, maybe a powerhead to keep the flow, and pvc pipe( for hiding spots)

rgr. that

im not planing on useing the bucket, but i just did that 2 get that sand in some fresh water

10gal AGA something like a wisper or aqua clear Hob filter a heater and a small power head, a couple of peaces of Pvc

no sand no lr

filter media from a mature tank? like the bag of carbon i remove from my tank bi weekly?

Don't run carbon in a QT tank.... Use a filter media (mesh) that has been in the aquarium.

where am i gonna get a filter media from a aquarium?

guess thats for the into of new bacteria? i dont use filter mesh tho, the only thing i got thats clost to that is the bags that i run the cabon in, and the bag i run the phosban in. they get more junk on em then anything (i think)

would puting a hob filter in the sump for a couple of weeks then changing it to my 10 qt tank do it?

i just wanna know what i should do b4 i go a spend more money,

you could put a prefilter sponge in your display for 2 weeks to get some bacteria growth on it....i guess the polyfilter pad from your hangon back would work also

I know i was able to buy a 20L QT tank for like $25 near me. If i were you and i was strapped for cash i would check out all LFS near my area and see if you can find a used small tank for sale and buy that.

That will do it. Let it run in the sump for at least two weeks.

Also, this should be obvious but be sure to sterilize or throw out any materials you transfer back to the sump afterwards.

A white bucket, or anything white is about the worst thing for QT....IMO...

Best,
Ilham
