Relocated to the Seattle area. We are looking at homes in Orting, WA. I would like to know if there are any LFS in Tacoma that are worth visiting. I am assuming Tacoma,WA is the largest city near Orting.

Any advice is appreciated
Kirk

Hey Kirk!

There are two LFS that carry coral stuff here. The best by far is Indoor reef http://www.indooreef.com/
and a DISTANT second is Aquarium Paradise http://www.aquariumparadise.com/

AP carries a few corals but is quite boring in their selection. Sometimes they have a nice fish selection but this is hit or miss.

You JUST beat me LakeED LOL

Ive been to Aquarium Paradise many times and have bought alot of stuff from em. BUT I went there last weekend and was going to buy this coral marked at $49 and got up to the counter and they said $89. tried to talk to the guy about it and he was a total jerk, pissed my wife off so bad she had me put everything back. :) went to saltwater city and got my stuff there.

Well my experience at Aquarium Paradise has been good. The owner is very knowledgable if not a little old-school, and his frag tank is way better than any I have seen in Puget Sound. The store is clean, the tanks are clean, and I have never had any rude experience like I have had at a couple other stores in the area. The store owner is IMO one of the most honest retailers in the area and everything I have bought at AP is still alive and well.

Unfortunately we often judge a store based on selection and since stores get product in cycles, we often are put out by visiting the store when stock levels are low. Because "good" aquarium shops are typically small businesses with limited cash flow, they cannot afford to maintain high stocking levels throughout the week/month so these levels fluctuate significantly.

I had a similar and even worse experience as kendog at Shark Reef and did not return to that store until this Summer PSAS event. The guy I had the problem with on two occassions is now gone...Indoor Reef is another PSAS favorite but I am generally a little bored when I go there.

So we all view stores a bit differently and I would definitely recommend going to Aquarium Paradise and chatting with the owner.

Indoor Reef is really nice, and if you want to venture out a bit, there is Shark Reef out in Silverdale. His stuff is really nice!! THere is a little store in Sumner, right next to Orting, but cant say I recommend it. Where in Orting are you looking? My Ex and I own a house out there.

It wasnt the owner that I had a problem with he is very helpfull and will answer all the stupid questions that everyone ask. It was one of the employees.

Lonzo is deffinently a good guy. i thought that i was the only reefer out in orting, we need to hook up sometime!

If you are going to be in town next Saturday you should consider attending the PSAS Frag Swap in Auburn. Thats 20 minutes from Orting. Meet some local reefers, check out one of the nicest systems in the state, and see lots of corals that aren't at the local fish stores. The really good stuff!

Fragman,

Thanks for the invite, but until we find a home, all fish related stuff is on hold right now. (well, at least my wife thinks this) ROFL....
