light please help

I have a 45 gallon breeder and am getting a 400 mh with a 14k bulb I know it is a lot of light but if I hang it 2 1/2/ or 3 feet off the tank is it ok. I have starburst, A Guineafowl Puffer, Harlequin Sweetlips,Gold Stripe Maroon . And I want to do leathers and frogspawn and a whole bunch of other things.

some of those fish get rather large are you planning to upgrade soon? having the halide that high is going to put alot of light in the room maybe you could trade for some vho's or even a 250 watt or 2 and make a nice canopy

I just built a relly cool canopy I am just woried about the light being to much for the fish. Is it possible to have to much light. I am building a 160 gallon tank to move the larger fish in to

Is there any live rock in the tank? How deep is the tank? You'll definately want to make sure the softies are lower in the tank. One concern I'd have is the heat produced from a 400W light onto a 45 gallon tank.

I have got the heat covered with 2 4in by 4in fan. But is the light to much.

Might be a bit much for Soft Corals and the not so light demanding LPS. Heck, that's enough light for the most light demanding SPS and Clams in that size of tank.
